What Are the Causes of Disease Heart Attack?

Heart disease or Coronary Artery Disease is a major cause of heart attacks. It is a condition where there is narrowing of the blood vessels that lead into the heart. One and half million people have heart attacks per year.
  1. Plaque

    • Heart disease is a condition where plaque builds up on your arteries or blood vessels that move into the heart.

    Causes

    • When blood is restricted in getting to the heart, the oxygen that is in the blood is restricted from the heart as well. The lack of oxygen to the heart will start to damage the heart muscle, and a heart attack will occur.

    Risk Factors

    • Your propensity to build plaque in your arteries is partly due to heredity, poor diet, being overweight and poor exercise habits. If you parents had heart disease you might develop it also, if you are not careful with your diet and exercise habits.

    Smoking

    • Smokers have an increased risk of having a heart attack. According to American Heart Association, "cigarette smokers are two-to-three times more likely to die from coronary heart disease than nonsmokers."

    Diet

    • A diet high in fat and cholesterol can cause heart disease. Additionally, sodium or too much salt in your diet can lead to heart disease.
