Isosorb Side Effects

Isosorb, a drug made up of isosorbide mononitrate, is a compound used by medical professionals to prevent angina in users. The drug dilates blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through them and subsequently making it easier for the heart to pump. Isosorb, like any other drug, has a series of side effects associated with its use.
  1. Common Side Effects

    • As with many drugs that are associated with improving functions of the heart, there are some common side effects that can come as a result of using Isosorb. Some of these side effects include headaches, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, pain or stiffness in the joints or muscles, dry mouth, blurred vision, and warmth, redness or tingling underneath the skin.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Unfortunately, there are also some serious side effects that can occur as a result of use. These include an irregular or uneven heartbeat, feelings of dizziness and lightheadedness, trouble breathing, and slowly worsening chest pain. If you experience any of these side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

    Important Safety Information

    • Never take Isosorb if you are using any substance that includes sildenafil, including Viagra, as it can result in life-threatening side effects. You should not use this medication if you are allergic to isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, or nitroglycerin. Alert your doctor if you have any of the following pre-existing medical conditions before beginning use of Isosorb: early signs of a heart attacks (including chest pain, pain spreading into the arm or shoulder), congestive heart failure, low blood pressure or kidney disease.

    Usage

    • In order to avoid some of the above side effects, it is important to use the drug correctly. Always take the drug in conjunction with doctor's orders and do not exceed dosage instructions. Isosorb should also always be taken with at least 4 oz. water and should never be crushed, chewed or broken to ingest. The drug is usually taken first thing in the morning right after you get out of bed, but this can be changed according to your doctor's instructions.
