What Side Effects Does Tetrofosmin Have?

Tetrofosmin is used by doctors to perform imaging studies of the coronary system. The drug is injected into the patient and radiological scans are performed to test heart muscle function.

    • Tetrofosmin is a generic name. It is sold under the brand name Myoview. It is only used intravenously.

    Ingredients

    • Tetrofosmin is sold in vials that also contain stannous chloride dehydrate, disodium sulphosalicylate, sodium D-gluconate, and sodium hydrogen carbonate.

    Function

    • Tetrofosmin is used in radiologic imaging of the heart while at rest and while under stress. The action of the drug in the heart muscles helps show physicians changes in heart muscles and heart disease.

    Side Effects

    • There have been no documented side effects of tetrofosmin.

    Interactions/Contraindications

    • Tetrofosmin's interaction with other drugs has not been studied. Pregnant women should not use tetrofosmin unless the benefits of the study outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Nursing mothers should not breast-feed until the tetrofosmin has cleared their system.

    Warnings

    • Patients with known heart disease or other heart problems should be continually monitored while undergoing tests involving tetrofosmin. A patient being injected with tetrofosmin should empty their bladder as soon as possible before the testing and as often as possible afterwards. Tetrofosmin is a radioactive material and should only be handled by qualified medical staff.
