Diet for Chelation Therapy
The therapy treatments for chelation can only go so far without the right diet being consumed. A person going through a series of chelation treatments is given an second chance of an improved circulatory capacity. The right diet helps to prevent any deterioration that may happen. Leaving behind old eating and exercise habits during this time can prevent surgery being needed for cardiovascular disease in the case of the system being severely compromised.-
What is Chelation Therapy?
-
Chelation therapy is the treatment that is used to remove harmful poisons from the body. It is used in the case of acute mercury, lead, arsenic, iron and other toxic metals. Chelation is also used as an alternative medicine treatment for heart disease and autism. The procedures are conducted with a patch or intravenously. There are 20 to 30 treatments required with each lasting two to three hours. The agents used in the treatments are ethylenediaminetetaacetic acid (EDTA), thiamine tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide (TTFD), dimercaptopropanesulfonic acid (DMPS) and dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA). Only the DMSA and EDTA are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The chelation treatments are successful when removing the toxic metals and poisons from the body, but they also removes vital nutrients. A careful diet is needed during these procedures, with vitamin supplements, to replace the Vitamin E and C that is lost during treatment.
Diet
-
A careful diet is essential during chelation treatments. Not only are certain foods needed to restore vitamins lost in the body, other foods may cause serious effects during the treatments. While certain fats like fried foods are to be avoided, some fats and oils are beneficial. Olive and linseed oils offers a valid source of essential fatty acids. Three to four eggs a week is safe for consumption without causing negative effects to the cholesterol levels.
Non-refined carbohydrates help to improve cardiovascular health. Make sure that the carbohydrates are provided from whole grain sources and not refined white flour. Eat brown rice, whole grain pasta and multigrain breads. This will provide the body with essential vitamins and minerals and not the bad elements from refined products. Other essential elements are protein and fiber.
A controversial substance that can enhance the cardiovascular system during chelation treatments is alcohol. It has been proven that drinking one to one and a half glasses of wine daily have beneficial effects for the heart. This is up for debate because while it is helping the heart, alcohol has the opposite effects on the liver; and using more than the recommended amount of alcohol can also have negative effects on the heart also. With such strict limits on the consumptions, most experts advise against the use of alcohol during chelation treatments.
Other things to stay away from, or restrict the usage of, are coffee and salt. Coffee increases the blood's cholesterol levels. Because of the bad effects salt has on the blood pressure, its intake is restricted to less than 3 grams a day.
