How to Use Nitrate Liquids

  First, only use these medications under the strict care and direction of a medical professional. Misuse of any prescription medication may result in sickness, injury or death.

  At the first sign of an angina attack, administer 2 to 3 metered sprays of liquid nitrate on or under the tongue. A spray may be repeated every 5 minutes as needed. After dosing, it is recommended that patient remain in a resting or sitting position. Do not spit out medicine or rinse mouth for 10 minutes following administering of mist.

  Only use a maximum of 3 measured sprays in a 15 minute period. If pain persists after 3 sprays, take action to seek prompt medical attention.

  Common adverse reactions to use of liquid nitrates include headache, rash, nausea, vertigo or weakness. Also, anyone taking liquid nitrates should avoid taking medications classified as PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra.
