Cardiac Murmur in Radiography
Radiography is a medical technique that involves the use of X-rays to view the internal organs. In some cases, radiographs of the chest may help a doctor detect and explain the presence of heart murmurs.-
Symptoms
-
Heart murmurs are abnormal sounds accompanying your heartbeat cycle. In the case of innocent heart murmurs, there are no other symptoms aside from these noises. In more serious cases, chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath and enlarged neck veins may accompany heart murmurs.
Causes
-
If the heart murmurs are abnormal, doctors can use radiographs to detect holes in the heart, heart valve abnormalities or enlarged cardiac muscles. Any of these conditions may cause heart murmurs.
Treatment
-
After reviewing the radiographs, doctors may treat the condition with surgery or medications. Surgical options range from patching a hole in your heart to widening narrow blood vessels with a stent.
