The ACIP Protocol

In asymptomatic cardiac ischemia, or silent ischemia, often nothing is wrong with the heart itself. Instead the narrowing of one or more blood vessels linked to the heart prevents the heart from functioning properly.
  1. ACIP Protocol

    • Treadmill exercise is used to measure abnormal physiological function.

Asymptomatic Cardiac Ischemia Pilot is a physical exercise created to test the degree of heart dysfunction. On the basis of the test results, a type of treatment may be decided. The protocol parameters are very exact, lasting 10.2 minutes, and calculated to provide adequate measurement with a minimum of physical effort.

    How is ACIP Protocol Used

    • The heart peak rate can show narrowing of blood vessels leading to the heart.

The functioning of an ischemic heart is analyzed by measuring the heart and lung function with exercise. In the ACIP protocol, the physiological responses are measured in terms of peak level of oxygen inhalation, peak heart rate and systolic blood pressure.

    Benefits

    • The uniformity of the protocols enables doctors to see if the selected treatment works or not.

The protocols ensure uniformity in diagnosis, which is linked to the choice of treatment. These tests also allow physicians to evaluate the effects of the heart medications and of surgeries. In research, the ACIP protocol is used to ensure uniformity of medical conditions of the study subjects and to measure the results of the study.
