What type of tissue is in the heart?

The heart is composed of three types of tissue:

1. Cardiac muscle tissue: It is the main tissue of the heart and makes up the bulk of its structure. Cardiac muscle fibres are specialised muscle cells that are arranged in a unique way, allowing for the coordinated contraction and relaxation of the heart to pump blood.

2. Connective tissue: This tissue provides structural support and organisation to the heart. It includes dense connective tissues such as the fibrous skeleton and endocardium (the innermost lining of the heart chambers), as well as loose connective tissues that surround blood vessels and nerve bundles.

3. Nervous tissue: The heart contains specialised nervous tissue known as the cardiac conduction system. This system comprises various specialised cells, including sinoatrial (SA) node, atrioventricular (AV) node, and bundle of His, which are responsible for generating and coordinating the electrical impulses that cause the heart to beat rhythmically.
