1
Watch your diet. Avoid caffeine and alcohol; both are known to increase heart rate in susceptible people. Food sensitives and allergies may also cause heart rate to go up. Chemocare.com suggests keeping a diary of everything you eat and drink, along with a diary of times you experience tachycardia. Compare the two sets of data to determine if a specific food is contributing to your fast heart rate.

2
Learn to meditate. Meditation calms your mind and body. Find a quiet place, sit in a comfortable chair and close your eyes. Focus your attention on the in and out of your breathing. Don't allow your thought to wander away from your breath. Sit this way for at least five minutes several times a day.

3
Exercise lightly. Light exercises like swimming, walking or light aerobics make your heart stronger and can slow your resting heart beat. Speak with your doctor before starting any exercise program.

4
See your doctor. Tachycardia can be a sign of a serious heart disease, lung infection or infection of the blood, so take the time to consult your doctor.
