How do you get rid of croup?
Home Remedies:- Cool-mist humidifier: Keeping the air in your child’s room cool and moist can help ease croup symptoms. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, which helps to loosen mucus and reduce coughing and hoarseness.
- Steam shower or bath: Run the shower on high heat and sit with your child in the bathroom for 15 minutes. The steam will help to relieve croup symptoms.
- Rest: Make sure your child gets plenty of rest so that their body can heal.
- Pain reliever: If your child is in pain, you can give them a children's pain reliever, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
Medical Treatments:
- Steroid medication: If your child's croup symptoms are severe, your doctor may prescribe a steroid medication, such as prednisone or dexamethasone. Steroids help to reduce airway inflammation.
- Epinephrine (adrenaline): In severe cases, your child may need to be given epinephrine, a medication that helps to open up the airways.
- Hospitalization: In some cases, your child may need to be hospitalized if their croup symptoms are severe.
