Can thrush make you feel ill?

Thrush is caused by a type of fungus called _Candida_, which naturally lives in small amounts on the skin, in the gut and in the vagina (in women). Sometimes this fungus can grow too much and cause infection.

If thrush spreads through the bloodstream, it can cause a serious condition called invasive candidiasis. The most common sign of invasive candidiasis is a high temperature. Other signs can include feeling very unwell, shivering, muscle pain, being sick and diarrhoea.
