Instructions for Taking Nexium
Nexium is a medication used for the healing and maintenance of healing of erosive esophogitis. It is also prescribed to control the symptoms of gastroesophogeal reflux disease and reduce the risk of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers. Nexium is also prescribed to eradicate H. pylori, which has been shown to reduce the recurrence of duodenal ulcers.-
Frequency

Nexium should be taken once daily before a meal. When treating H. pylori, Nexium should be taken once daily for 10 days in addition to twice daily doses of amoxicillin and clarithromycin. When Nexium is prescribed for treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions, it should be taken twice daily.
Nexium Capsules

Nexium capsules should be swallowed without opening with water. Patients who have difficulty swallowing pills may open the capsule and mix with 1 tbsp. of room temperature applesauce. Use a clean bowl and mix the contents of the capsule in the applesauce. Consume immediately and do not store for later use. Do not chew the applesauce and do not chew or crush the granules, which are meant to dissolve in the stomach.
Nexium Oral Suspension

Mix the contents of the packet with 1 tbsp. of water and stir. Allow to soak for two to three minutes. After the mixture has thickened, stir again and drink the suspension within 30 minutes. If there is any remaining in the container, add water, stir and drink immediately.
Nasogastric or Gastric Tube

Add the contents of one packet with 1 tbsp. water in a catheter tipped syringe. Shake for three minutes to mix. Inject through the nasogastric or gastric tube. Add 1 tbsp. water to the syringe and shake to rinse all remaining residue from the syringe and nasogastric or gastric tube and inject into the nasogastric or gastric tube.
