Bile Reflux Symptoms

Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid comes into the esophagus, while bile reflux happens when bile from the liver works its way into both your stomach and esophagus. Symptoms of the two conditions may seem similar, but bile reflux exhibits some very distinctive symptoms as well.
  1. Burning in Abdomen

    • The primary symptom involving bile reflux occurs in the form of a powerful burning sensation in the upper abdomen, similar to that of heartburn.

    Nausea and Vomiting

    • Those suffering from bile reflux may experience repeated bouts of nausea. In some cases the patient might even start vomiting bile.

    Weight Loss

    • Frequent vomiting, nausea and general poor health can lead to unintended weight loss, which in turn can be another sign of bile reflux.

    Heartburn

    • Heartburn remains a common symptom for bile reflux. A sour taste in the mouth is another sign that might indicate the condition.

    Cough or Hoarse Voice

    • The constant presence of bile in the esophagus and stomach can lead to a persistent cough or a hoarse voice, common signs that you may be experiencing bile reflux.
