Genuine Home Remedies to Cure Gas, Indigestion & Heartburn

Everyone has experienced the discomforts and embarrassment of indigestion, heartburn and gas at some point. Hectic lifestyles exacerbate this problem. The rapid pace of running from one place to the next while gulping down meals and indulging in fast or unhealthy foods is too often the culprit. There are many home remedies to help with these maladies.
  1. Lifestyle

    • Indigestion, flatulence and heartburn can be minimized by making a few lifestyle changes.

People who suffer from these problems should avoid eating too much or too fast. Air is swallowed when you gulp your meals or beverages. Avoid eating spicy, acidic or fatty foods too often, and don't eat for three hours before going to bed.

Avoid overindulging in alcohol, drinking carbonated beverages or eating while stressed, since all of these can just worsen the problems.

Simple changes such as wearing loose-fitting clothing can prevent indigestion, and other stomach disorders.

Stop smoking and lose weight if you need to; both of these will minimize your stomach disorders and make you feel better in general.

    Heartburn

    • Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which aids in digestion. Although papaya can be hard to find at certain times of the year, dried papaya is available year-round, but should be eaten in little amounts due to its high sugar content.

Apple cider vinegar is helpful in relieving heartburn with its ability to neutralize stomach acids.

Eating an ounce of almonds, with their high concentration of oil, is helpful with heartburn symptoms.

    Indigestion

    • A way to prevent indigestion is to drink 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, or vinegar, in a glass of water, 20 to 30 minutes before you eat.

Drinking herbal tea is a good home remedy for indigestion, particularly chamomile and mint flavors.

Drinking equal parts of honey and lemon can aid in digestion and it helps relieve stomach discomforts.

Take half a teaspoon of baking soda disolved in 8 ounces of water to get rid of indigestion. Do not use more than once a week, as prolonged use may be harsh on your digestive system.

    Gas

    • Ginger has been used for thousands of years as a digestive aid. Drinking ginger tea, eating ginger candy or simply chewing raw ginger is helpful for gas and bloating.

Cumin contains thymol, which stimulates the liver to produce enzymes and bile to the pancreas. This action stimulates digestion and is effective in reducing flatulence.

Angostura bitters is a flavoring used to make many alcoholic beverages. It also is effective in treating stomach aches and gas. Put a few drops of angostura bitters in a cup of water to prevent gas. It also can be added to other beverages such as juice or tea.

Avoiding foods such as nuts, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, beans and onions can decrease the frequency of gas.

    Warning

    • Stomach disorders should be taken seriously if they affect your lifestyle frequently. See your doctor if you find that you have heartburn or indigestion more than twice a week. These problems and frequent gas could be a symptom of a more serious problem such as irritable bowel syndrome, gall bladder infections, food allergies or even certain types of cancers.
