Side Effects of Prylosec

Prilosec is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of acid-related conditions in the throat and stomach. The medicine is classified as being a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Some disorders that are commonly treated by the medication include erosive esophagitis and acid reflux. As with any type of medicine, there are several side effects that can occur with Prilosec.

    • There are several common side effects of Prilosec. These side effects are generally not considered to be dangerous, as they tend to go away once the body adapts to the medicine.     • Allergic reactions are also considered to be potentially dangerous side effects of taking Prilosec. In cases of allergic reaction, it is necessary to seek emergency medical attention. Some signs of allergic reaction to Prilosec include itchiness, breaking out into hives, skin rash and unusual swelling.

    Uncommon Side Effects

    • There are also some uncommon side effects due to Prilosec, such as drowsiness, changes in taste, appetite loss, vertigo, weight gain, ringing in the ears, muscle cramps, blurry vision, dry skin, anemia, dry eyes, urinary tract infections, loss of hair, sleeplessness and joint ache. Those who experience any of these side effects must consult a doctor as soon as possible.

    Overdose

    • A person suspecting that he or she might have taken too much Prilosec must immediately seek medical assistance. Some signs of Prilosec overdose include fast heart rate, confusion, disorientation, nausea, throwing up, drowsiness, blurry vision, dry mouth, headache, flushing and sweating.
