What does a hemorroid look like?

A hemorrhoid may appear as a small lump or swelling in or around the anus. It may be red, blue, or skin-colored, and can vary in size from pea-sized to larger. Hemorrhoids can be internal, meaning they are located inside the rectum, or external, which means they are located outside the anus. Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless, while external hemorrhoids may be associated with pain, discomfort, and itching. In severe cases, hemorrhoids may also bleed, resulting in bright red blood in the stool or on toilet paper.
