Why is hemophilia famous?

Hemophilia is famous primarily due to its historical association with several prominent royal families in Europe. Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom was a known carrier of hemophilia, passing it on to several of her children and grandchildren, including her son Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, and her grandson, Alexei Nikolaevich, the last Tsar of Russia. The affliction within these royal families brought public attention to the condition and sparked scientific research to understand and treat it. Today, because of the increased genetic understanding and access to treatment, hemophilia is no longer the life-threatening condition it once was, giving people with hemophilia the opportunity to lead normal, active lives.
