What do you if a person is bleeding lot?

1. Call emergency services immediately

- Call for an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

2. Protect yourself from infection

- Wear gloves, or use a clean cloth or plastic barrier if gloves are not available.

3. Apply direct pressure to the wound

- Use a clean cloth or bandage, or your hands if nothing else is available. Press hard to stop the bleeding.

- If the wound is deep or spurting blood, press directly on the artery that is supplying blood to the wound.

- If the bleeding is on the arm or leg, elevate the limb above the level of the heart to help reduce blood flow to the wound.

4. Keep the wound clean

- Clean the wound gently with soap and water or saline. Remove any dirt or debris from the wound.

5. Apply a sterile bandage

- Once the wound is clean and the bleeding has stopped, apply a sterile bandage to the wound to protect it from infection.

6. Monitor the person for signs of shock

- These include: weakness, dizziness, confusion, thirst, rapid pulse, and shallow breathing. If any of these signs are present, lay the person down with their feet elevated and cover them with a blanket to keep them warm.

7. Stay calm and reassure the person

- If the person is bleeding a lot, they may be scared and anxious. Stay calm and reassure them that help is on the way.
