How many centimeters do you have to be dilated before the mucous plug falls out?

There is no set dilation at which the mucous plug will fall out. Some people lose their mucous plug very early in labor, while others don't lose it until they are fully dilated. The mucous plug is simply a collection of mucus that helps to seal the cervix during pregnancy. When the cervix begins to dilate, the mucous plug can be pushed out. However, the loss of the mucous plug does not necessarily mean that labor is imminent. It can take several days or even weeks for labor to begin after the mucous plug has been lost.
