What is myorrhexis?

Myorrhexis refers to the tearing or rupture of muscle tissue. It often occurs as a result of severe muscle strain, intense physical exertion, or underlying medical conditions. Myorrhexis can cause significant pain, swelling, and functional limitations in the affected muscle group. Treatment typically involves rest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE), pain medication, and physical therapy to help promote healing and prevent complications. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to repair the torn muscle.
