Hep C Carrier Precautions

Information about Hepatitis C
-
Hepatitis C is an infectious disease that can heavily scar the liver. These problems can lead to serious health conditions, including liver failure or cancer. Hep C is spread by coming into contact with infected blood. This can be done through such activities as sharing needles, using unsterilized tools for tattoos or piercings and in some rare cases during child birth. Currently a vaccine is not available for hepatitis C.
Precautions of Living with Hepatitis C
-
Being infected with hepatitis C will cause you to face such physical problems as fatigue and persistent illness. Still, many individuals have active daily lives. It is important to be sure of your status because individuals who may not show symptoms can still pass hepatitis C on to others. Openness with those whom you have close personal contact is important. Hep C is rarely spread through sexual contact but it is still possible. Also do not allow others to use any personal products that may have blood on them.
Precautions of Interacting with Infected Individuals
-
If you are not infected with hepatitis C, but have friends or colleagues who are, it's normal to be afraid of contracting the disease. Use the proper safety tools such as latex gloves when working around blood or other bodily fluids. Also, the use of condoms can help prevent catching this disease through sexual contact. Also avoid using other personal products, such as toothbrushes and razors.
