Can you be infected with someone herpes?
Herpes is caused by a virus, so you cannot be infected with someone's herpes. You can, however, get herpes from someone who has it. Herpes is spread through direct contact with an infected person, such as during sexual intercourse, kissing, or sharing drinks or utensils.
There are two types of herpes: herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2). HSV-1 is the type that usually causes oral herpes, while HSV-2 is the type that usually causes genital herpes. However, either type of virus can cause either oral or genital herpes.
Herpes is a lifelong infection, but it can be managed with antiviral medications. These medications can reduce the severity and frequency of outbreaks, and they can also help to prevent the spread of the virus to others.
