Does shigella have cell wall and flagella?
Shigella, a genus of Gram-negative bacteria and the causative agents of shigellosis (bacillary dysentery) lacks flagella but has a cell wall, composed of two major components:
* Peptidoglycan: the rigid matrix that provides strength and shape to the bacteria.
* Lipopolysaccharides (LPS): complex molecules containing carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. LPS contributes to the cell wall's structural integrity, interaction with the host immune system, and resistance against various environmental factors. The LPS of Shigella plays a role in its pathogenesis by disrupting host cell membranes and mediating interactions with immune cells.
