Can you catch herpes by sharing a cigarette?
Herpes is a highly contagious infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). It can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person's saliva, blood, or sores. Sharing cigarettes does not increase the risk of catching herpes, as the virus is not transmitted through smoke or saliva that has been through a cigarette filter. However, sharing cigarettes can increase the risk of other respiratory infections, such as influenza and pneumonia, as well as oral cancer.
