Where is herpes located?
Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1):
HSV-1 primarily causes oral herpes, commonly known as cold sores or fever blisters. It affects the mouth and surrounding areas, including the lips, gums, inside of the cheeks, tongue, and sometimes even the face and neck.
Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2):
HSV-2 usually causes genital herpes, which affects the genitals. Genital herpes may manifest as blisters or sores on the genitals, buttocks, or inner thighs.
Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can spread through direct contact with infected sores, blisters, or fluids from the affected areas. They can also be transmitted through close personal contact, such as kissing (for HSV-1) or sexual intercourse (for HSV-2).
It's important to note that a herpes infection can remain latent in the body after the initial outbreak, and periodic recurrences can occur throughout a person's lifetime.
