When is herpes simplex 2 contagious?
Herpes simplex 2 (HSV-2) is contagious when there is active shedding of the virus. This can occur during an outbreak, when symptoms such as blisters or sores are present, or it can happen when there are no visible symptoms (asymptomatic shedding). The risk of transmission is highest during an outbreak but can still occur during asymptomatic shedding. HSV-2 can be transmitted through direct contact with infected skin or mucous membranes, such as during sexual intercourse, oral sex, or sharing sex toys.Herpes - Related Articles
