How can you catch mouth herpes?
Oral herpes, or herpes labialis, is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). It is highly contagious and can spread from person to person through close contact, such as kissing, sharing drinks or eating utensils, or coming into contact with sores or saliva from an infected person.
The virus can also be transmitted through direct contact with infected surfaces, such as towels or razors. People with active oral herpes sores should take precautions to avoid spreading the infection, such as avoiding kissing, sharing personal items, and covering sores with a bandage.
