How can you stop your baby from getting herpes in the womb if have them?
There is currently no way to completely stop a baby from getting herpes in the womb if their mother has it. However, there are a few things that pregnant mothers can do to reduce the risk:
- Antiviral medication: Your doctor may prescribe antiviral medications like acyclovir or valacyclovir that can help decrease the amount of virus in the body.
- Cesarean section: In severe cases, a C-section may be recommended to reduce the risk of your baby coming into contact with the virus during delivery.
- Avoid breaks in the skin: If you have any herpes lesions or cold sores, avoid touching them and make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after touching them. Avoid kissing your baby or allowing anyone with active lesions to come into contact with them.
