Folk Remedies for Herpes
A Herpes Simplex outbreak can be uncomfortable. Since there is no cure for the virus, these symptoms are not completely preventable. However, there are some effective folk remedies for herpes that can help relieve the discomfort associated with the oral and genital blisters, by reducing the pain and increasing the speed of the healing process.-
Ice
-
Cold compresses work well in healing blisters caused by Herpes Type 1 and 2. The temperature can affect the thriving virus by slowing down its ability to infect the body, and can also relieve you of the pain and discomfort associated with the blisters. For cold sores, apply an ice cube directly to the area for five minutes. Do this every hour. Ice packs are recommended for genital lesions, and can be left pressed against the affected area for 10 to 15 minutes.
Cornstarch
-
Cornstarch can help speed up the healing process for both oral and genital herpes. When applied directly to the blisters, the powder help dry out the lesions and relieve the itching associated with the sores. It can be specifically beneficial for genital warts to prevent rubbing. Use a damp cotton ball to apply cornstarch to the areas as often as needed.
Aloe Vera
-
The gel of the aloe vera plant is soothing and is used for many skin ailments. It can help the herpes blisters heal, as well as take care of any damage to the skin following an outbreak. Pure aloe vera should be used when treating herpes sores. Products containing aloe often have less of the ingredient and are made with other things that could irritate the delicate skin.
Having access to the gel directly from the aloe vera plant is the most beneficial way to remedy herpes. Break off the thick stalks and trim off the thorny sides. Freeze the sticks for 30 to 60 minutes so that the gel will be cool to the skin. Apply the ointment as often as needed. Keep in mind that aloe vera can be quite sticky, so you may only want to use it at night before bed.
