Mouth to mouth contact can spread herpes. If you have oral herpes and you have open blisters on your mouth, you are highly contagious. Kissing someone when you have these blisters can spread the herpes to their mouth as well.

Herpes can be transmitted during childbirth. Although it is a more mild form, herpes can still be passed from mother to baby if the mother has herpes. In this case, the child usually develops cold sores on their lips when they get a little bit older.

Touching and rubbing can cause herpes. If you were to touch the mouth area of an infected person and then rub an area of your mouth or body before washing your hands, then you can get herpes. This can also happen if you touch the genital area and then rub an area near your mouth with your hand.
