Avapro is a brand name for the prescription oral medication irbesartan. Despite its effectiveness at lowering blood pressure levels in people suffering from hypertension, Avapro poses a risk for side effects in some patients.

  1. Significant Side Effects

    • The most common or significant side effects of Avapro include diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn and fatigue. These effects occur in between 3 and 4 percent of users, according to FDA clinical trials published on RxList.

    • The common side effects of Avapro are usually transient, diminishing as your body becomes acclimated to the effects of the drug, explains the Mayo Clinic.

    Types of Other Side Effects

    • Less common but not dangerous side effects of Avapro include abdominal pain, anxiety, nervousness, chest pain, dizziness, headaches, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, runny nose and increased incidences of influenza and urinary tract or sinus infections.
