Symptoms of Hypertension

There are very few outward symptoms of hypertension, or high blood pressure, which is why it is known as the silent killer. Most people don't immediately think of hypertension when these symptoms manifest since they are common with other disorders.
  1. Headaches

    • Most people experience headaches once and awhile and think little of it. But headaches are a symptom of hypertension. Sometimes when a person has hypertension, he gets what is known as a tension headache. These tension headaches may indicate that the person should get his blood pressure checked.

    Nosebleeds

    • Again, nosebleeds can be a regularly occurring event for most people. There may be no deeper problem other than having a dry nose. However, if nosebleeds occur regularly or you have a difficult time stopping the bleeding, there may be more serious problems. Nosebleeds such as these are an indication that you should get your blood pressure checked.

    Blurred Vision/Dizziness

    • Changes in vision can be a symptom of hypertension. Dizziness is a more common complaint from people who have hypertension. Low or high blood pressure can cause dizziness.

    Tinnitus

    • Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, can also be a symptom of hypertension. Even if the ringing in the ears isn't a sign that you have high blood pressure, it is something you should still get checked by a doctor. It could be a sign of another issue going on with your body.

    Treatment/Warning

    • The treatment for hypertension is for a doctor to prescribe a medication that will help to lower it. Consult a doctor before trying any home remedies. If you feel that you have any of these symptoms of hypertension, seek a health provider's help immediately.
