Plendil Side Effects
Plendil is the brand name for felodipine, a calcium channel blocker medication prescribed to treat high blood pressure. Manufactured by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Plendil relaxes the blood vessels and allows them to widen, making it easier for the heart to pump blood. Numerous side effects are possible.-
Most Common Effect

In clinical studies with Plendil, as detailed by eMedTV, the most common side effect was peripheral edema, or water retention causing swelling in the lower legs, feet or hands. This was experienced by up to 17 percent of participants in some studies.
Other Side Effects

Up to 14 percent of participants had headaches while taking Plendil. Other effects experienced between 1 percent and 7 percent of participants included constipation, dizziness, indigestion, nausea, skin flushing, sneezing and runny nose, upper respiratory tract infections and weakness. These side effects typically disappear with time.
Serious Side Effects

Unlikely but serious Plendil side effects involving rapid or irregular heartbeat, or chest pain, call for immediate medical attention.
Low Blood Pressure

Plendil can cause blood pressure to drop too low. Signs include dizziness and lightheadedness when getting up from sitting or lying down. If fainting occurs, the patient should seek medical attention.
Gum Swelling

Rarely, Plendil causes mild gum swelling. This can be reduced by massaging the gums, and brushing and flossing regularly.
