Signs & Symptoms of Hypertension in Men

Hypertension is a serious condition that sometimes requires medication and almost always requires a change in lifestyle when it comes to diet and exercise. High blood pressure could result in serious illness, heart attacks and strokes. For many men, the idea of high blood pressure never crosses their minds unless signs and symptoms are present. Aside from taking a test at your doctor's office, you may not experience any signs. However, there are a few symptoms to pay attention to, because they could mean you have hypertension.
  1. Headaches

    • Constant headaches that keep you from going about your regular day could be a symptom of high blood pressure.

    Being Confused

    • This constitutes feelings of confusion where it usually is not present and for reasons that are unexplainable.

    Fatigue

    • Although fatigue can be attributable to a number of factors, it is one of the few signs and symptoms that hypertension could be present.

    Severe Chest Pain

    • Pain found anywhere in the chest region that persists should be check out by a physician.

    Difficulty Breathing

    • This could be when exerting yourself more than you are used to or when doing everyday tasks. If you have trouble breathing and feel heaviness in your chest, you should take a blood pressure test.

    Blood in the Urine

    • This is a serious symptom and one that isn't as common as the rest. Blood being present in the urine could present itself as a pinkish color.

    Changes in Vision

    • If eyesight changes and the change persists--especially involving blurred vision--this could be a sign of hypertension.
