The Effects of Benazepril & Grapefruit
-
Common Side Effects
-
Headache is a common side effect of Benazepril. Common side effects of Benazepril include headache, dry cough, dizziness and swelling of the hands, feet or ankles. These side effects tend not to be severe and typically go away during the course of the treatment, but consuming grapefruit can exacerbate symptoms. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen.
Severe Side Effects
-
Persistent sore throat can be a severe side effect. Chest pain, persistent sore throat, stomach pain and yellowing of the eyes are only a few of the more severe side effects of Benazepril. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these occur. Avoid taking this drug with grapefruit or grapefruit juice, as this can increase the risk of these abnormalities.
Precautions
-
Adhere to drug warnings when taking prescription medications. Benazepril and other hypertension controlling drugs can be life-saving. As with any prescription drug, adhere to the dosage prescribed and contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience side effects. Always read warnings of interactions with any food or vitamin products as consuming incompatible substances can increase the dangers of any side effects and decrease the efficacy of the drug.
