Which pressure point stops severe bleeding of upper leg?
Femoral Artery Pressure Point
- Location: The femoral artery runs along the front of the thigh. To locate the femoral artery pressure point, place two fingers above the top of the knee cap and move your fingers toward the inner thigh until you feel a pulse. The pressure point is directly over the pulse, at the crease.
- How to Apply Pressure: Use your thumb or finger to apply pressure to the pressure point. Press down firmly and steadily until the bleeding stops. You can also use a rolled up piece of cloth or a bandage to apply pressure.
- When to Apply Pressure: Apply pressure to the femoral artery pressure point if there is severe bleeding from a wound in the upper leg.
Note: If the bleeding does not stop after applying pressure for 5 minutes, call 911 immediately.
