How to Use a Whirlpool When Patient Has Hypertension

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, can be dangerous when you don't know you have it. You can have hypertension for years without symptoms, and it may be years before your doctor diagnoses you with hypertension. Along with medications and a healthy diet, hydrotherapy is a common naturopathic (alternative) medical treatment. When done properly, your blood pressure can begin to lower and over time, it may become fairly steady.

Check the whirlpool water temperature and make sure it is between 92 and 94 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermometer is built into the whirlpool.

    • 2

Submerge yourself into the whirlpool. Make sure your entire body is submerged, except for your head. This will increase your circulation and release toxins from your body, which is the point of using hydrotherapy as a treatment for your hypertension. Toxins are released through your skin's pores when you sweat. Dirt, oils, and dead skin cells are a few natural bodily toxins that can be released by this treatment. Fats, artificial additives, and synthetic pesticides are some of the toxins your body takes in due to environmental circumstances or poor eating habits.

Watch the time and make sure you are submerged in the water for no more than 15 minutes. Having hypertension, your blood pressure can skyrocket if you stay in the heated whirlpool for longer than a 15 to 20 minute period.

Step into a cold shower after the heated hydrotherapy. The water should be as cold as possible, and you should stay in the shower until you begin shivering. That should last about two minutes. Doing this will re-energize the body and stimulate the immune system and healthy blood flow. Your blood circulation will increase because the cold water shocks your system. From there, your white blood cell flow increases greatly, which allows your immune system to more rapidly prevent and fight off infection.
