Placement of Cuff for Wrist Blood Pressure

Automatic blood pressure monitors are an easy way to track your blood pressure at home. Those that are applied on the wrist provide a hands-free reading that does not require an arm cuff or stethoscope. This guide will help you properly use your wrist monitor at home.
  1. Taking a Reading

    • Be sure that you are in a relaxed state before taking a reading. Physical exertion, medication, stress, and prior eating can all affect a blood pressure reading. To take an accurate reading, place the cuff directly around the left wrist with your thumb upward. Place the monitor so that the device is about a half an inch from the palm of your hand, and close the Velcro. Next, take your right arm and support underneath the left elbow. Guide your left arm up to the level of the heart. Turn on the monitor to take a reading.
