What Are the Dangers of Blood Pressure Medicine?
Blood pressure medications, such as Lasix, Toprol XL, Zestril, Cardizem, Procardia, Cardura, Catapres, Loniten and others, are used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). While effective in treating your condition, in some cases they can be dangerous.-
Side Effects

Side effects that may become severe include nausea and vomiting, headache, dizziness, diarrhea or constipation, weight changes, extreme fatigue, chest pain, palpitations, upper respiratory tract infection, cough, fever or skin rash.
Interactions

You may experience interactions between your blood pressure medication and other medications or certain foods or beverages, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians. Make sure your doctor is aware of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter and herbal supplements
Pregnant/Nursing

The Food and Drug Administration indicates that many blood pressure medications can present a risk to your baby if you are pregnant or nursing.
Medical Conditions

If you have an existing medical condition such as kidney or liver disease, diabetes, asthma, overactive thyroid or heart disease, you should talk with your doctor about risks of taking these medications. There may be concerns for elderly patients as well.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, you should contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: chest pain; swelling in your face, lips, tongue, eyes or legs; breathing or swallowing difficulties; fast, slow or irregular heartbeat; fainting; serious rashes; sudden weight gain; or fever.
