About Caduet Medication
Caduet (amlodipine besylate/atorvastatin calcium) is a prescription medication used for treating hypertension, chest pain and coronary artery disease.-
Dosing

Caduet is available in tablets that contain 5mg or 10mg of amlodipine and 10mg, 20mg, 40mg or 80mg of atorvastatin. It is typically taken once per day.
Diet

Foods high in fat or cholesterol should be avoided while taking Caduet, since it may decrease the efficacy of this medication.
Interactions

Antacids, niacin, erythromycin, birth control pills and other medications may interact with Caduet. Grapefruit can effect how Caduet is absorbed into the body, leading to potentially toxic levels in the blood stream. Discuss any possible interactions with your physician or pharmacist prior to taking Caduet.
Contraindications

Pregnant women should not use Caduet, since it may cause birth defects. It is not recommended for individuals with impaired liver functioning. Alcohol should not be consumed with Caduet, since it may lead to damage of the liver.
Side Effects

Common side effects include headache, upset stomach, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, swelling of ankles or legs, skin flushing, changes in heart rate and pain. Serious side effects, such as liver failure, may occur.
Warning

If chest pain worsens, skin discoloration or rashes develop or urine is dark in color, discontinue use and seek medical treatment, since these may be signs of an allergic reaction or other serious side effects.
