Does Kyolic Garlic Help Lower Blood Pressure?
Garlic may be one of the most researched and commonly renowned medicinal herbs. Kyolic, or aged, garlic has often been touted as a natural remedy to help reduce (hypertension) high blood pressure. Further studies are needed to clear up the ambiguity surrounding the effectiveness of kyolic supplements as a means of reducing hypertension.-
Garlic Research
-
According to the Mayo Clinic, several studies involving humans have suggested that garlic can modestly reduce high blood pressure. However, larger and more structurally sound studies are required to support these findings.
Uncertain Evidence
-
The National Institute of Health's National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine says although garlic may slightly reduce blood cholesterol levels there is inconclusive evidence as to whether garlic supplements can lower blood pressure even by a small amount.
Promising Findings
-
Researchers at Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island, conducted an experiment involving men with high cholesterol levels and found a notable reduction in their blood pressure after the subjects took 800 mg of aged garlic daily for a six-month period.
The researchers discovered that aged garlic extract supplementation lowered total cholesterol levels by 6 to 7 percent. The study was published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in December 1996.
