Dosage
-
Depending on the severity of your condition, Lotrel will be dispensed in 10- to 40-mg tablets. Do not alter or skip a dose of this medication, and do not double up on the medication either, as this might cause an overdose. Symptoms of Lotrel overdose include dizziness, feeling lightheaded or fainting. Seek emergency medical treatment if you feel you are experiencing an overdose as a result of Lotrel.
Dehydration Risks
-
It is important that you take Lotrel exactly as it was prescribed by your doctor. Lotrel should be taken with a full glass of water, with or without a meal. It is very important that you stay hydrated while taking this medication, as dehydration can cause kidney failure and very low blood pressure. Drink eight glasses of water per day to ensure that you stay hydrated while taking Lotrel.
Emergency Dangers
-
Some side effects are severe and can cause death. Seek emergency medical treatment if you experience severe stomach pain, difficulty breathing, facial swelling or swelling of your lips, tongue or throat. African-Americans may be more prone to having a reaction to Lotrel.
Side Effects: Moderate to Severe
-
Some side effects of Lotrel are more moderate, and while they require that you inform your doctor, they do not require emergency room treatment. Call your doctor right away if you experience a change in your urination (more or less frequent), the feeling of being faint or lightheaded, flulike symptoms such as fever and chills, nausea/vomiting or easy bruising, bleeding or a paleness in your skin color. Your doctor also needs to know if you have developed a blistering, peeling skin rash or if you are feeling tired or having uneven heartbeat or chest pain.
Avoid
-
Because Lotrel can impair your judgment, you should avoid operating a motor vehicle until you have adjusted to this medication. You should not drink alcoholic beverages while taking Lotrel, as alcohol can interfere with your treatment and cause side effects to be more severe. Unless directed by your physician, do not use salt substitutes or take potassium supplements while using Lotrel.
