The Best Time to Take Toprol
Toprol is a medication available by prescription only and manufactured by AstraZeneca. Toprol is used to treat a variety of conditions, including high blood pressure, chest pain and heart attack prevention. Toprol is prescribed as a once-per-day tablet, and should only be administered under specific conditions.-
Maintaining Supply
-
Your dose of Toprol will be in oral tablet form and administered once daily. In order to keep the medication working properly and to keep a supply of Toprol in your blood stream, it is important that you take the medication at the same approximate time every day. Whether the time of the dose is in the morning, afternoon or evening doesn't matter (unless directed by your doctor).
Preventing Nausea
-
Toprol should be taken with food or after a meal to help prevent the uncomfortable side effect of nausea. It is additionally important that you take Toprol with a full glass of water to help prevent nausea and dehydration. Do not chew or crush the tablet, but rather swallow it whole with the water; chewing or crushing could cause too much of the medication to be released at once.
Evaluation
-
In order to make sure this medication is working properly, your doctor will need to regularly evaluate your blood pressure. Do not stop taking this medication even if you are feeling well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms. Do not miss or skip a dose of Toprol, and do not double up on your dosage, as this may cause an overdose. Symptoms of Toprol overdose include blue-colored fingernails, feeling faint or weak, lightheaded or dizzy, and feeling short of breath. Seek emergency medical treatment if you feel you are experiencing Toprol overdose.
