Trandolapril Side Effects
Trandolapril is a prescription medicine that is commonly used for the treatment of hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. It is an ACE inhibitor that functions by enabling the blood vessels to relax, which results in them becoming wider. Trandolapril also is also used to treat congestive heart failure. Some possible side effects are associated with trandolapril use.-
Common Side Effects
-
There are a handful of common trandolapril side effects that many of its users experience. These include upset stomach, coughing, dizziness and diarrhea. These side effects tend to fade away quickly, but if you find them to be especially long-lasting or bothersome, you should alert your doctor of the situation.
Serious Side Effects
-
Occasionally, serious side effects of trandolapril occur. These require emergency medical attention, because they can become potentially harmful. They are slurred speech, stomach ache (often accompanied with throwing up and nausea), jaundice, low blood pressure symptoms (like extreme lightheadedness, dizziness, and passing out), muscle cramps or pains, a leg or an arm feeling numb, signs of infection (like chills, fever, and lingering sore throat), irregular, slow, or rapid heartbeat, urinating less frequently, darker colored urine, having a hard time swallowing, shortness of breath and weakness on one side of the body.
Allergic Reactions
-
Harmful allergic reactions to trandolapril are unlikely, but they sometimes occur. Call for emergency medical help if they arise. Some signs of allergic reaction are abnormal hoarseness, the chest feeling oddly tight or heavy, rash, trouble breathing, hives and itchiness.
Medical Conditions
-
When considering taking this medication to treat your high blood pressure, it is very important that you inform your doctor of your medical history and present medical conditions, as these could require some special testing or dosage changes. Your doctor must know if you are allergic to any ACE inhibitors (like captopril, perindopril and enalapril), and especially if you have or have had diabetes, liver or kidney disease, congestive heart failure, heart disease or any type of connective tissue disorder (such as lupus, Marfan syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis).
Overdose
-
Overdosing on trandolapril can be very harmful. This is why, if you are worried that you might have taken too much of the medicine, you need to seek emergency medical assistance. Some signs of trandolapril overdose include severe lightheadedness or dizziness, and passing out.
