Torsemide Side Effects

Torsemide is a prescription medicine that is used for the treatment of hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. It is a diuretic (also known as a water pill) that functions by raising the amount of urine that you produce, which enables the body to get rid of unnecessary, excess water. It can also decrease fluid retention and swelling that results from medical conditions like kidney and liver disease, as well as congestive heart failure. There are some possible side effects of Torsemide.

Common Side Effects

• There are several common side effects of Torsemide. These side effects are usually considered to be minor, since they tend to go away as the body gets used to the diuretic. These side effects are coughing more, dizziness, feeling lightheaded upon standing or sitting up, constipation, nausea, nasal inflammation, headache and urinating more frequently. If these side effects get worse or persist, you should notify your doctor.

Serious Side Effects

• Serious side effects can occur with Torsemide use, as well. If you experience any serious side effects of the medication, you have to get emergency medical help. Some of these severe side effects are irregular or fast heartbeat, rectal bleeding, abnormal weakness or fatigue, throwing up, restlessness, chest ache, diarrhea, dry mouth, being thirstier than usual, appetite loss, ringing inside of the ears, hearing loss and muscle cramps or ache.

Allergic Reactions

• Severe allergic reactions to Torsemide are unlikely, but possible. If you have symptoms of an allergic reaction, you must get emergency medical attention as soon as possible. Some signs to look out for include skin rash, breaking out into hives, itchiness, difficulty with breathing and swelling.

Warnings

• You must be very cautious when considering Torsemide as a high blood pressure medication. You must inform your doctor of any allergies or medical conditions that you might have, especially if you are allergic to any sulfa medicines, or have liver or kidney disease. These situations might call for dosage changes or specialized testing in order to be able to safely take Torsemide.

Overdose
