What is the mode of infection AIDS?

The primary mode of transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes AIDS, is through unprotected sexual intercourse. HIV may also be transmitted through contact with infected blood or bodily fluids or from an infected mother to her infant during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. Sharing contaminated needles or drug paraphernalia and receiving blood transfusions or organ transplants from an infected donor are additional risk factors for HIV infection. Modes of transmission that are not associated with HIV transmission includes casual contact, such as touching or hugging, sharing household items or food, or being bitten by insects. To prevent the spread of HIV, practicing safe sex using condoms, abstaining from sharing needles or drug paraphernalia, and talking to a healthcare provider about preventive measures are recommended.
