What are some ways to pass on HIV person person?
There are three main ways that HIV can be transmitted from person to person:
1. Through sexual contact. HIV can be transmitted through unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex. This can happen between two men, two women, or a man and a woman.
2. Through sharing needles or other drug paraphernalia. HIV can be transmitted when people share needles, syringes, or other drug paraphernalia that are contaminated with infected blood. This can happen among people who inject drugs, as well as among people who use steroids or other medications that are injected.
3. From mother to child. HIV can be transmitted from an infected mother to her baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. However, with proper medical care, the risk of transmission from mother to child can be reduced to less than 1%.
There are also some rare cases where HIV has been transmitted through blood transfusions or organ transplants. However, this is very rare, thanks to the careful screening of blood and organs that are used for transfusion and transplantation.
HIV cannot be transmitted through casual contact, such as sharing a meal, hugging, or kissing. It also cannot be transmitted through the air or through water.
