What is the main effect HIV?

Weakening of the immune system: HIV primarily targets and destroys a type of white blood cell known as CD4+ T cells (also called helper T cells), which are essential for fighting off infections. As the virus progresses, it weakens the immune system, making the person more susceptible to a wide range of opportunistic infections, certain cancers, and other health problems. Over time, this severe weakening of the immune system is what ultimately leads to the development of AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), the most advanced stage of HIV infection, which is life-threatening.
