According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the total funding from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for HIV/AIDS research in fiscal year 2021 was approximately $3.295 billion. In the same fiscal year, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) received approximately $6.624 billion in funding from the NIH for cancer research. Therefore, the United States spends more on cancer research than on AIDS research.
