Cures for Fibroids

Also called fibromyomas or myomas, fibroids are one of the most common conditions to afflict women during their child bearing years. They are benign growths that often begin to develop after a woman reaches the age of thirty. A number of treatments are used to cure this condition.

Drug Therapy

• A number of drugs are used to treat fibroids including oral contraceptives, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa).

Herbs

• Herbal remedies are one of the oldest methods used to cure fibroids. Some of the herbs used to formulate these remedies include chastebery, red clover, sage and black cohosh.

Hysterectomy

• A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the surgeon gets rid of the fibroids by removing the entire uterus.

Uterine Artery Embolization

• Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) is a procedure that involves the blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the uterus.

Focused Ultrasound Surgery

• This is a non-invasive treatment option in which highly-focused sound waves are used to destroy the fibroids. A magnetic resonance (MR) scanner is used to perform this procedure.

Watchful Waiting

• Watchful waiting is recommended for women who are about to enter menopause, and who do not have any serious fibroid-related symptoms. Fibroids tend to shrink and even disappear when a woman enters menopause, because her estrogen levels drop significantly.
